Rijksmuseum
Amsterdam Attractions - Rijksmuseum
Currently
the Rijksmuseum is subject to a fundamental
renovation and modernization until 2008. A selection of the most valuable
paintings is to be seen in a special exhibition named “The Masterpieces”
situated in the Philips wing of the museum. The Rijksmuseum
remains opened during the renovation work.
The largest and most popular museum of the Netherlands was opened
in 1885 and since then constantly increased in size. Currently the
Rijksmuseum holds paintings from the 14th Century up to 1850
as well as some magnificent pieces of furniture. When you visit Amsterdam
and your time is limited and want to run through quickly, head directly
towards the first floor for the Netherlands masters of art. On the
first floor you will find exhibitions of Rembrandts legendary
“Night Watch” beside several well-known art of Vermeer and
Frans Hals. A little guide available in the Rijksmuseum
for 0,50 € describes all high lights of the museum and you also have
the option of the usual audio guidance.
