Villa Borghese

Rome Tourist Attractions - Villa Borghese

Villa Borghese and its impressive art-gallery lies only 5 to 10 minutes walk east from the Spanish Steps. Tourists recover in the green from sightseeing when they enjoy the beautiful decorated garden which the former cardinal Scipione Borghese (nephew of Pope Paul V.) resided. Tourists who visit the garden enjoy the numerous sculptures from the 17th Century. The garden includes a city zoo, the arena Piazza di Siena, a temple built in antique style, imitations of medieval castles and an artificial lake. The most humorous element of this baroque park are malicious splashing fountains, that surprise the passing pedestrians and spray a load of water over their clothes. For culture lovers I recommend the visit of the Casino Borghese, a treasure room full of sculptures and antiques. I also recommend the Etruski museum in the nearby Villa Giulia with its remarkable Sarkophag of an embracing married couple from Cerveteri or the Galleria Nazionale dArte Moderna e Contemporanea. The Galleria Borghese, in which you will find Bernini’s most famous art work Apollo and Daphne, tourists often decide to see first. Tickets for the art-gallery can be bought in advance. Visitors can take part on a tour every two hours.
