Rome Tourist Attractions - Colosseo - Colosseum

The Colosseo (Colosseum) lies literally a stone’s throw from the Forum Romanum, Via Sacra and the Arco di Costantino. The Colosseo is perhaps the most well-known monument in Rome. Tourist are impressed by its enormous dimension of 186 length and 153 m width. The height of the Roman Colosseo is approximately 47 m. What many tourists are not aware of, bearing in mind the indicated size this is only a third of the Collosseo’s original size 2000 years ago. Emperor Vespasian began with its building in the year 72. The sight was finished eight years later under the son of Titus. A wild kind of entertainment took place there: Gladiators had to fight against each other, with lions and other wild deadly animals. There was always only one winner for each fight. The plays were finally forbidden in the fifth century. Over the centuries the stage was raped and shaken by earthquakes. Today only the foundation walls with their relicts of former times survived the thousands of years. Originally underground you will be able to view the relicts of the wound passages where the wild animals were driven on to the battleground of the arena.
