Rome (Roma) Tourist Attractions - Tourists

There is simply too much to see in Rome to give you a short summary of all the tourist attractions. The Vatican City alone can easily take a whole weekend vacation if you want to see everything. Most visitors are overwhelmed by the choice of attractions and can not decide whether they should try and visit all tourist attractions quickly one after another or focus only on a couple of sights, monuments, exhibitions and museums and take more time to view only those.

After spending two years in Rome I can recommend that the latter version is preferable. Many of the tourists rush through, take a couple of photos of every attraction so that they can report to their friends and family that they have seen it all. But what do they really remember after traveling to their hometown? Try instead to slip a bit into the Roman tranquility of doing things. Shortly after you arrive in “bella” Roma you will notice that although it is the capital of Italy, things run at a different speed. Take your time walking around the historic center and have a break with a cup coffee or an ice cream at Piazza Navona, Piazza di Popolo or the Spanish Steps.

The best starting point for sightseeing in Rome is the historical center where, in a relatively small radius, most of the classical and Christian tourist attractions are located. The capital of Italy constantly surprises you with antique sculptures and monuments. When you have the time for directionless strolling in the Centro Historico (historic center) than you should really try it out. You will be surprised by all the little Piazzas and antique sights you will discover that may not even be in your guidebook. Fountains from the Renaissance and beautiful Piazzas will carry your feet and will not even notice how long and far you actually walked. Late in the evening in the hotel you will get an idea of how many kilometers you have covered and start feeling your feet again.

Rome is really amazing: You can easily stroll through the historic center for a week or two and still discover new sights. Fortunately two of the most well-known tourist attractions, the Colosseum (Colosseo) and the Roman Forum (Foro Romano) lie only a stone's throw apart, so you can visit them within one afternoon. Walking around the center is fun! All the major highlights of Rome such as the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona, Pantheon and the Campo’ de Fiori lie within comfortable walking distance from each other. Roma has over 400 churches and four important cathedrals San Pietro, San Giovanni in Laterano, Santa Maria Maggiore and San Paolo. However it is San Clemente in the Via San Giovanni in Laterano, which best embodies the multilayered labyrinth of Rome.
